Human Body Lab 2 Flashcards
Trapezius Function
Extends the head
Latissimus dorsi functions
Adducts humerus pulling it medically and towards pelvis; pulls humerus behind trunk
Teres major function
Extend and addict arm at shoulder joint
Levator scapulae function
Moves pectoral girdle
Rhomboid major function
Scapulae rotation
Erector spinae group (iliocostalis, longissimus, spinalis) function
Postural muscles, acting together, they extend vertebral column or head; acting on one side they laterally bend the vertebral column
Pectoralis major function
adduction of shoulder joint, rotates upper arm medially
Pectoralis minor function
Pulls scapulae anteriorly or interiorly, elevates 3rd and 5th ribs and expands rib cage which aids in inspiration
Serratus anterior function
Pulls scapula forward and around, as if punching
Supraspinatus function
Abducts arm, as if raising out to the side, stabilizes shoulder joint
Infraspinatus function
Reinforces glenohumeral joint
Teres minor function
Extend and adduct arm at shoulder joint
Subscapularis function
Reinforces glenohumeral joint
Deltoid function
Moves brachium
External/internal intercostals function
External: elevate ribs during inhalation
Internal: depress rubs during exhalation
External/ internal abdominal oblique function
Both flex vertebral column when one contracts trunk is rotated or bent laterally; abdominal support and compression
Transversus abdominus function
Abdominal support and compression
Rectus abdominus function
flexes vertebral column, supports and compresses abdomen, tendinous intersections crossing muscle causes “six pack” look, surrounded by rectus sheath
Tendinous intersections fucntion
aids in flexion
Linea alba function
for our purposes this serves as a landmark
Rectus sheath function
surrounds rectus abdominus
Articulation
refers to two bones coming together
Attachment
refers to a muscle connecting a bone
Vertebral body function
weight bearing portion of spine
