Duodenum
Beginning of small intestine where most chemical digestion takes place
Villi
Tiny, finger like projections that line you small intestine, place where food is absorbed into bloodstream.
Pyloric Valve
Valve between stomach and duodenum
Peristalsis
Wave like contractions that start in the esophagus when you swallow and continue throughout the digestive system to move food along.
Enzymes
Chemical that helps to speed up a chemical reaction (in this case - it speeds up break down of nutrients in the digestive system)
Bile
Greenish / yellow liquid made in the liver, stored in the gall bladder, and is secreted into the beginning of the small intestine to help digestive fats.
Lungs
Passive organs that fill with air and get emptied
Pulmonary
Having to do with the lungs
Alveoli
Air sacs found at the end of the smallest bronchial tubes. They’re covered wi5 capillaries.
Arteries
Vessels that take blood away from the heart
Veins
Vessels that take blood to the heart
Capillaries
Tiniest vessels whose walls are semipermeable and are found at the end or arteries and beginning of veins
