What is the role of teeth during digestion?
To chew food into small, manageable chunks by mechanical digestion with help from the salivary glands.
How is saliva produces and what is its role?
Saliva is produced by the salivary glands and assists mechanical digestion of food using enzymes.
What systems are involved in temperature change?
Excretory system, skeletal system, circulatory system and nervous system
Function of the heart?
Pumps blood around the body, aids gas exchange and keeps oxygen while getting rid of co2 and other waste products.
What waste product is produced by the skin?
Sweat.
What waste product is produced by the lungs?
co2.
What is the role of the hypothalamus?
Regulates hormones, temperature and water content within the body.
Give an example of a reflex action?
Muscle contraction (when in contact with a hot object) eye movement (blinking).
5 components of a reflex arc?
Receptors, Sensory neuron, Spine, Motor neuron, effector.
Difference between sensory and motor neurons?
Sensory neurons go towards the central nervous system while motor neurons transmit to system effectors
Name three ways the small intestine is adapted for good nutrient absorption?
- Thin lining (1cm thick)
- Has an abundance of villi
- Good blood supply
