Parasites
Organism that grows, feeds, and is sheltered on or in a different organism that does not contribute to the survival of its host.
Virus
Micro-parasite that is smaller than bacteria, not considered and organism, and can only reproduce within a host.
Macro-Parasite
Organisms made of several cells that cycles through transmission stages which pass into the external environment.
Transmission
Movement of a parasite from host to host.
Incubation Period
Interval to time required for the development of a disease.
Latent Period
Seemingly inactive period between exposure to an infection and subsequent illness.
Parasite Virulence
Capacity of a parasite to cause disease.
Host Factors
Immunity, genetics, and nutrition.
Agent Factors
Biological, chemical, physical, psychosocial properties, rate of growth, and persistence.
