HUBS L17 Flashcards
Somatic Nervous System
The part of the nervous system that we are aware of and have control over.
What type of muscle control does the somatic nervous system manage?
Voluntary muscle control.
What is SOMATIC EFFERENT responsible for?
Motor (movement) signals going out from the brain to control muscles.
What is SOMATIC AFFERENT responsible for?
Sensory signals coming in from the body to the brain that we are aware of.
Autonomic Nervous System
The part of the nervous system that we are not aware of and have no control over.
What type of muscle control does the autonomic nervous system manage?
Involuntary muscle control (e.g. heart, digestion, breathing).
What is AUTONOMIC EFFERENT responsible for?
Motor (movement) signals going out from the brain to control involuntary muscles and organs.
What is AUTONOMIC AFFERENT responsible for?
Sensory signals coming in from the body to the brain that we are not aware of (e.g. blood pressure, internal organ status).
Somatic Efferent Division: Two neurons between brain and effector are?
Upper motor neuron
Lower motor neuron
Upper motor neuron are?
Cell body in brain,
Axon in spinal cord
Lower motor neuron are?
Cell body in spinal cord,
Axon in spinal nerve
Effectors (things the nerves go to and control) respond by
activation of skeletal muscle fibres
Somatic Efferent: Anatomical Organisation, CNS
Axon is myelinated
Somatic Efferent: Anatomical Organisation, PNS
Axon is myelinated
Somatic Efferent: Communication with
Effector cells
Whats the PRE-synaptic cell
The lower motor neuron
Whats the POST-synaptic cell
The effector muscles
