HTN drugs Flashcards
Prototype for Thiazide Diuretic
Hydrochlorothiazide
MOA of hydrochlorothiazide
excretion of water and sodium
Decrease of blood volume, renal blood flow, and cardiac output.
SE of hydrochlorothiazide
HYPOkalemia, arrhythmia, photosensitivity, HYPOnatremia, orthostatic hypotension, dizziness, increase uric acid
Trick for remembering ACE-I
-pril medications
angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor
MOA of -pril medications
- vasodilation of mostly arteriole
-excretion of sodium and water
-retention of potassium
SE of ACE-I
orthostatic hypotension, cough, HYPERkalemia, rash, dysgeusia (altered taste), ANGIOEDEMA, neutropenia
Trick for remembering beta adrenergic blockers
-olol
MOA of BB
-decreased cardiac contractility
-decreased HR
-decreased CO
-excretion of water and sodium
SE of BB
Bradycardia (can mask tachycardia in hypoglycemia, decrease CO, orthostatic hypotension, rebound HTN, bronchoconstriction
