What is merchandise?
Goods, wares, and chattels of every description and includes merchandise the importation of which is prohibited, and monetary instruments. (includes drugs)
What does “Prohibited Items” mean?
No reason to be here.
What does Restricted Items” mean?
Certain amounts are allowed or limited to WHO can bring it in… might need a license for some things.
What does “Dutiable Items” mean?
Taxable. Will need to pay taxes on certain items.
What happens during the Pre-Entry stage?
Purchase Order
Bill of Lading
Manifest
What is a Purchase Order?
A contract between both parties for the purchase of goods.
What is a Bill of Lading?
List of everything in the container.
What is a Manifest?
Identifies everything on the ship
A record of all items and people on board the mode of transportation
What statute requires the conveyance operator to provide a manifest to CBP? (Use list)

What does “Import” mean during the entry phase of the customs importation process?
When goods are brought into U.S territory (including territorial waters), whether or not entry has been made.
What does “Introduction” mean during the entry phase of the customs importation process?
When imported goods are actually landed (that is, brought onto land), whether or not entry has been made.
What is the “Entry” definition during the of the customs importation process.
A period of time that begins when information relating to the importation of merchandise is submitted to CBP,, and ends when goods are released into the commerce of the U.S
Can the “Entry” occur before the merchandise arrives in the U.S? Before the “Imported” or “Introduced” parts?
Yes, they can submit the paperwork electronically or hand it to CBP.
Declaration and an Invoice will be included during what step?
Entry.
What is classification?
The process of determining what the item is and in which category it falls.
