what is fresco eg. Crete minoan, sistine chapel

why did egyptians use for their wall paintings, which wasn’t lime plaster

A

calcium sulphate based plaster, sets by reaction quickly

sets as hemi hydrate to dihydrate by mixing water with plaster, which sets as a dihydrate

painting on top of that requires a medium, like casein or egg yolk

these things biodegrade sometimes, leaving a powdery effect
