Q

CELLS

what components are cells and their organelles made up of.

A

atoms. Atoms then join to gether to form non-living structures called molecules. small molecules serve as building blocks for larger molecules. 4 major molecules are protein nucleic acids, carbs and lipids in the cell.

What is the Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)?

A
  • comes both smooth and rough
  • Rough Er is coated with ribosomes

What is the golgi apparatus/complex?

A
  • takes substances in and packages them to be shipped out.
  • consists of a series of flattened sacs (cisternae)
  • main functions include the synthesis of substances (eg. phospholipids), the packaging of materials for transport, and production of lysosomes
