Hrbl-Module 2- Introduction to basic physiology and Anatomy Flashcards
1
Q
what are the two branches of science used to describe the body in a healthy state?
A
Anatomy and Physiology
2
Q
CELLS
what components are cells and their organelles made up of.
A
atoms. Atoms then join to gether to form non-living structures called molecules. small molecules serve as building blocks for larger molecules. 4 major molecules are protein nucleic acids, carbs and lipids in the cell.
3
Q
CELLS
Cell structure
what is the cell nucleus?
A
- at the center of the cell
- contains cell DNA
- DNA is the genetic code that coordinates protein synthesis
4
Q
CELLS
cell structure
What is the Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)?
A
- comes both smooth and rough
- Rough Er is coated with ribosomes
- functions for both include mechanical support, synthesis (especially proteins by rough), and transport of molecules.
5
Q
CELLS
Cell structure
What is the golgi apparatus/complex?
A
- takes substances in and packages them to be shipped out.
- consists of a series of flattened sacs (cisternae)
- main functions include the synthesis of substances (eg. phospholipids), the packaging of materials for transport, and production of lysosomes
