determine each possible action avoidable to use, those who are affected & the pro’s and cons to each
explain step 2 of utilitarianism
calculate how much happiness or unhappiness each pro & con will produce, sum the value of each pro & the values of each con from the actions
Step 3 of utilitarianism
select which action produce the greatest amount of happiness, who is affected , what are the actions & what are the consequences
what is the first categorical imperative of deontology
“I ought to never act except in such a way that I can also will that my maxim should become universal law”
Step 1: you figure out your maxim & universal law
Step 2: consider the cirucustnace in which everyone you be guided by this rule
step 3: See whether this is a contradiction in conception (Cannot be done if everyone doe sit) or contradiction of will (is this the world you want to live in?
what is the second formulation of the CI?
Treat humanity, whether in thine own person or in that of any other, in every case as an end & never only as a means.
AKA do not use people or treat them like objects. you must respect them & not use them for your own goals!
