How to process Radiographs Flashcards
What is conventional radiography?
Using chemicals to do so (ie film)
What is a latent image?
A radiograph that is yet to be processed and made visible
What are the two types of digital radiography?
- Direct radiography
- Indirect radiography
What is direct digital radiography?
Image is produced electronically immediately following the exposure of the digital sensor to radiation
What is indirect digital radiography?
Following exposure to radiation, the digital sensor has to be scanned by laser in a separate step before the image is produced electronically.
What is the substance used in conventional radiographs?
Silver Halide
What is PSP?
PSP stands for Photostimulable Phosphor Plate and it is used in indirect digital radiography
What does each pixel in a digital sensor represent?
Each pixel represents a 3D voxel (cuboid) of the patient
What are they layers of the phosphor plate?
Top to Bottom
- Protective layer
- Phosphor Layer
- Anti Halo & Reflective Layer
- Base
- Backing Layer
What happens when the film is exposed to light?
Forms an image and fogs up, rendering it useless.
What is the structure of the film?
- Protective layer (gelatin)
- Emulsion (silver halide)
- Adhesive
- Plastic Base
- Adhesive
- Emulsion (silver halide)
- Protective Layer (gelatin)
Why are there 2 layers of silver halide in film?
Requires less exposure to radiation
What happens to silver halide crystals when exposed to X-rays?
They become sensitised
