How To Be A Good Historian Flashcards
What does “chronological order” mean in history?
Chronological order in history refers to arranging events or periods in the order in which they occurred, from the earliest to the latest.
How do we determine which century an event belongs to?
To find the century of an event, remove the last two digits of the year and add 1. For example, the year 1876 would be in the 19th century.
Can you explain what an anachronism is?
Anachronisms are things that exist or are depicted in the wrong time period. For instance, showing a medieval knight using a smartphone would be an anachronism because smartphones didn’t exist in medieval times.
What are examples of primary sources in history?
Primary sources are original materials from the time being studied, like diaries, letters, legal documents, artifacts, or interviews conducted during that time.
Could you give examples of secondary sources in history?
Secondary sources are materials that analyze or interpret primary sources and events, such as textbooks, biographies, encyclopedias, or articles written after the time being studied.
