Iron and Steel Industry
Scotland had a good quality iron and steel, this boosted other industries such as engineering and shipbuilding which was in high demand during the war
Shipbuilding
*Cheap materials available near the Clyde such as steel and coal, engineering industry near by and the Clyde was deep enough for launching ships
*However, success of Clyde shipping was dependent on foreign orders and Government commissioning
Textiles
*Profits during the war rose as high demand for jute for sandbags on the Western front.
*Other textiles were in demand for soldiers’ uniforms
