Definition of Le Chatelier’s principle
When any of the conditions affecting the position of a dynamic equilibrium are changed, the position of the equilibrium will shift to minmise that change.
What are the key characteristics of a dynamic equilibrium?
- The system is closed.
- Forwards and reverse reaction occur at the same rate.
- The concentrations of reactants and products remain constant.
What is a homogenous reaction?
A reaction in which the reactants and products are in the same state.
What is a heterogenous reaction?
A reaction in which the reactants and products are in different states.
Which factor affects the value of Kc and Kp?
Temperature ONLY
What effect does increasing the pressure have on cenoncentration?
Concentration increases for all substances.
Definition of partial pressure
mole fraction x total pressure
Definition of mole fraction
(Moles of individual gas) / (Total moles of all gases)
State the method to calculate Kp
- Calculate the mole fraction for each gas in the equation.
- Calculate the partial pressure
What state must chemicals be in Kp expressions?
Gaseous
