How do we see? Flashcards
Retina
the light-sensitives her at the back of the eye.
Perception
The way the brain makes sense of the visual image detected by the eyes
Rods
light-sensitive cells in the retina that responds even in dim lights
What’s the Retina made up of?
Nerve cells called rods and cones
Optic nerve
Bundle of nerve cells that leads out from the retina at the back of the eye.
What does the optic nerve carry?
Information from the rods and cones to the brain
What happens in dim light?
Only our rods work,so we cannot see in colour
Rods able to work in dim/bright light?
Dim
What do rods detect?
Light
Do cones work in dim/bright light?
Bright
What do cones detect?
colour
BlindSpot
the area of the retina where the optic nerve leaves
What doesn’t the BlindSpot have?
Rods and Cones-So it cannot detect light
Optic chiasma
The cross shape where some of the information from the left to right eye crosses over to pass into the opposite side of the brain
Visual Cortex
the area at the back of the Brain that interprets visual information
