How do Pathogens cause Disease? Flashcards
Why do Pathogens enter cells?
To survive and reproduce further
What is Molecular Recognition?
Molecular Recognition refers to the specific interaction between two or more molecules through bonding
How do Pathogens avoid the immune system?
By entering cells to ensure their survival and to evade the immune system
What are self Antigens?
Self-antigens are substances that are normally present in the body and are not attacked by the immune system
what are non-self Antigens?
non-self antigens are foreign substances that trigger an immune response
What is an Antigen?
a toxin or other foreign substance which induces an immune response in the body
What is an Antibody?
A blood protein produced in response to and counteracting a specific antigen. Antibodies combine chemically with substances which the body recognizes as alien, such as bacteria, and viruses in the blood.
