Appeasement

A

This policy used by the British and French try to prevent war from happening with Hitler and the nazis.
However it is now viewed as “giving unto” hurlers demands and many argue that appeasement actually helped cause war

It tried to avoid war by negotiating
-Britain couldn’t afford to go to war because of the 1930s depression
Communism (Russia) seemed to be a bigger threat than the nazis

-each act of ‘appeasement’ (e.g the remilitrilastsion)

Preparations for war

A

Britain had declared war Germany (3rd September 1939) the following was put in place.
-the government had started to build new warships for the navy.
-people where encouraged to plant vegetables on any spare ground to help feed the population.
-in July 1939 the government set up the minestry of suply to oversea perpretrator for war
-the government met with the trade unions to agree wartime
