The worst hit areas of unemployment were both east and north west England,south wales and north west England these areas became known as “special areas”.

The government aimed to encourage industries to move these “special areas” set up factories ect and employ people

By 1938 unemployment did decrease but this was mainly due to the workers moving to area of light industries

The Treforest industrial estate in south wales was created in June 1936. It’s aim was to provide employed in the coal and steel industry Wich had been hit the hardest depression in 1937

The government invested in the estate from 1939-1945.

As a consequence the number of people working on the industrial estate grew to 16,000
