The Roman Catholic Church -had power and land -gave the kings power to rule -sort of corrupt -sold indulgence -give church money & they tell you that you're saved from any horrid sins -tortured ppl they suspected weren't RC -Pope told ppl to kill so they'd get spot in heaven

Who was Joan of Ark?
A peasant girl living in medieval France who believed that god chose her to lead France to victory in war w/ England. Dresses up as man, commander let her and they won. Afterwards, he took credit and let her get tried for witchcraft/heresy and burned at the stake at the ripe age of 19 (1431). Years later (1920) they finally canonize (RC church makes her an icon) her for her victory.
