How do you get an amendment proposed?
Congressional Vote ( 2/3 of both houses of Congress vote in favor) or Congressional Convention (2/3 of state legislatures ask Congress for a convention where the amendment is proposed)
How do you get an amendment ratified?
State Legislature Vote (3/4 of state legislatures vote in favor) or Special State Convention (each state holds a convention and 3/4 of them vote in favor)
How likely is it to get an amendment proposed?
Very unlikely. 100s are proposed each year. Only 33 have been proposed and only 27 have been ratified. The first 10 are the Bill of Rights.
What role do the state play in the Amendment Process?
The states have to ratify any proposed amendments, most of the time, through state legislatures.
What leads to new Amendments?
It is from new issues and events. They can deal with citizenship and voting questions.
