Outlawed dumbbell tenements. Required wide light and air area, toilets, running water. “New Law Tenements”

Established FHA to insure home mortgages; stimulated single-family home ownership

Used New Deal funds to develop “Greenbelt” new towns

Formed HUD; established rent subsidies for poor, reduced interest-rate home loans, and subsidies for public housing projects
