Q

How is HP currently considering green practices/sustainability initiatives?

A
  • Replacing all vehicles gradually with electric models
  • Company uses energy-efficient processes such as energy-saving lighting in stores
  • They consult with external specialists on impact of opening a new branch on local community
  • Sustainability due diligence on suppliers

Route planning & maximising load sizes will reduce carbon emissions (also HP regularly checks old vehicles for emissions levels)
Should place an increased focus on energy-efficient heating systems/products (important for NWFT customers)

Q

Which business pose a competitive threat to HP?

A

Cementonline.com - set up in 2019, offers online only to tradespeople. Able to offer very competitive prices due to lower overheads.

Greg & Sons - similar to HP. Have been focusing more on online sales through new website (new sales function added around 10% to annual revenue). Even converted worst-performing branch to a warehouse, although this was expensive + disruptive.
