Partuirition in the mare
A
- Stage 1: mare appears restless
- Stage 2: foal begins to appear. Horse lies flat on side. Water bag appears and should break on its own. Ends when umbilical cord broken as the foal stands
- Stage 3: delivery of the placenta around 3-4 hours after delivery

Stays attached. Breaks itself in first 5 mins of birth
Then dip It in chlorhexidine or povidone solution

- Heavy horses which were breed as draught animals. Calmer, quieter, not as athletic

A
Warm blooded horse breeds: e.g trakehner
- Created by crossing light horses (e.g arabians, TBs, quarter horse) with heavy horses (e.g percheron, Belgian, clydesdale, shire, Suffolk punch)
- Light horses are known as ‘hot blooded’
