Hormonal Coordination P2 Flashcards
Hormones in the menstrual cycle
FSH:pituitary:eggs to mature,ovaries produce oestrogen
LH:pituitary gland: release of mature eggs from ovaries (ovulation)
Oestrogen:ovaries:lining of uterus to thicken,FSH inihibits, stimulates release of LH
Progesterone:ovaries:maintains thick uterus lining, inhibits FSH and LH
Contraceptives
Oral: contains hormones to inhibit FSH production so no eggs mature.
Barrier contraceptives-condoms and diaphragms
Intrauterine devices-prevents implantation of embryo or releases hormones like oral contraceptives
Injection implants or skin patch:slow release of progesterone
Spermicidal agents
Chastity
Surgical methods of sterilization
IVF
Mother is given FSH and LH
Eggs collected and sperm collected
Fertilized in a lab
Embryo develops and is placed in mother uterus.
Plant hormones
Auxins-plant growth regulator used in weed kill and rooting powered and growth in tissue cultures
Ethene- hormone that controls cells division. Controls ripening of fruit during storage and transport.
Gibberellins. Regulates developmental processes including initiating seed germination.
Ends seed dormancy, promote flowering, and increase fruit size
