Hookworms Flashcards
Give the Two significant species in human
- Necator americanus
- Ancylostoma duodenale
Skin penetration of __________
> Filariform larva
Allergic reaction in skin Ground itch or Coolie Itch or Dew Itch
> Ancylostomiasis / Uncinariasis
Due to ingestion of blood in the small intestine
> Microcytic Hypochromic Anemia
During larval migration in the lungs.
> Pneumonitis or Eosinophilia
Direct fecal smear and Concentration technique (Zinc Sulfate Sedimentation)
> Ova
Culture method is preferred
(Harada mori method)
> Species identification
Reverse enzyme Immunoassay for specific lgE ___________
> alternative method
The 3 Complete Blood count
- RBC
- MCV- below normal value
- MCHC with eosinophilia
With blastomeres that resemble morula balls (4-8 germ cells) and Clear thin shell
> Ova Morphology
What is the 1st Larval Stage (feeding stage]?
> Rhabditiform Larva
What is the Infective stage under hookworm?
> Filariform Larva
Give the Hookworms LIFE CYCLE
The third stage filariform larva will penetrate the skin —— It will migrate to the lymphatics and blood system —— It will undergo lung migration and will mature as adult in the small intestine —— Eggs will be passed on the stool —— Upon contact to the soil it will become first stage rhabditiform larva —— Afterwards and eventually becoming filariform larva repeating the life cycle
Give the two human hookworms Adult Morphology
- Americanus
- duodenale
Teeth of Adult Morphology Americanus?
> Semilunar cutting plate
