homosteis Flashcards
what happens on a hot day when your excreting
you will produce less urine but this will be more concentrated
you will also lose more water through your breath when you exercise because you breathe faster
what happens on a cold day when your not doing much
you don’t sweat much so you’ll produce more urine which will be pale
what is homeostasis
the maintenance of a constant internal environment
body temperature homeostasis
All enzymes work best at 37 degrees so body tries keeping that temp
A part of the brain receives messages from temperature receptors in the skin that provide information about skin temperature
Based on signals the CNS can activate the necessary effectors to make the body temperature stay right
what is vasodilation
lots of sweat is produced when it evaporates it transfers energy from your skin to the environment so your cooler
blood vessels close to the surface widen
it allows more blood to flow near the surface so it can transfer more
hairs lie flat
what is vasoconstrictions
very little sweat produced
blood vessels near the surface of the skin constrict so less blood flows near the surface so less energy is transferred to the surroundings
hairs stand on end to trap an insulating layer of air
you shiver it increase rate of respiration making you warmer by transferring energy
do smaller or bigger organism cool down quicker
smaller organism
why do smaller organisms cool down quicker
have bigger surface are to volume ratio
can gain or lose heat after as there is a greater area for the heat to transfer across
why is small organisms losing body heat dangerous
they lose body heat more easily in hot conditions reducing chances of overheating but means they are vulnerable in cold environments
what controls the gowth at the tips id shoots and roots
auxins
how do auxins move through the plants
in solution
what are shoots that grow towards the light
positively phototropic
why does the soot bend towards the light
because the shoot tip us exposed to light so it accumulates more auxins on the side that’s in the shade so it grows faster on the shaded side
what are negativist geotropic shoots
grow away from gravity
why does the shoot bend upwards
because more auxins are produced on the lower side causing that side to grow faster
