homeostatis Flashcards
what is homeostatis?
A state of balance among all the body systems needed for the body to survive and function correctly.
is there any type of homeostatis?
thermoregulation, osmoregulation and glucoregulation.
what is glucoregulatio?
Glucoregulation is a form of homeostasis (the body regulating and
maintaining a balanced state). Glucoregulation is when the body
regulates blood sugar levels by releasing hormones to make sure it’s not
too high or too low. Your blood sugar levels go up when you consume
carbohydrates and lower when your pancreas releases insulin.
what is the negative feedback system?
The Negative feedback system is an important process that occurs in our bodies to keep Homeostasis
what is the process of nagative feedback
Negative feedback is when a variable triggers a counter-response. Because variables unbalance the body, negative feedback can keep homeostasis so that it can even out.
- The process goes like this:
- The stimulus
-That leads to the sensor
- Then activates the control which leads to effectiveness,
What is osmorgulatioit and why is it important for our body?
The process of keeping water and salt concentrations (osmotic equilibrium) across membranes throughout the body is known as osmoregulation.
Maintaining the right water levels in our body is necessary to prevent osmotic damage to body cells.
What is the difference between a concentrated solution and a dilute solution?
A concentrated solution has a low water potential instead a dilute solution has a high water potential.
What is ADH and the feedback system?
ADH is a hormone,it regulates water, reabsorbing along the nephron tubules in the kidney.
One instance of negative feedback is how the tubules regulate the absorption of water
Less water is reabsorbed if the blood’s water content is too high, and more is reabsorbed if it is too low.
what is thermoregulation and why is thermoregulation important?
Thermoregulation is the control of temperature in our bodies.
Is important in order to prevent us from getting things such as
hypothermia or pyrexia.
What aìhappen when the body gets too hot?
The blood vessels enlarge - this is because the blood can flow better
through the veins, and more heat will evaporate in the environment.
This type of reaction is also called vasodilation.
what happen when the body gets to cold?
our skeletal muscles contract. Due to these
contractions, we start to shiver. These contractions will then require energy from
our respiration. Some of this energy is later released as heat. Blood vessels
become narrower during this making it so that less blood is able to flow through
skin to keep the normal body temperature.
