Q

Explain the Regulation of the CO2 concentration in the blood.

A

Normal Co2 Concentration in the blood—————>Exercise–>increase in breathing rate–>Co2 concentration rises above normal–>:

1) Cardiovascular centre is stimulated–>send nerve inpulses to the heart mucle tissue—————->contraction and relaxation of heart muscles tissues increase–>heart rate increases–>Co2 is transported to the lung faster, where it is exhaled—>

2) Respitory centre is stimulated–>send nerve inplusles to the respitory muscles–>concentraction and relaxation of breathing muscles increase–>rate of breathing increase–>more CO2 is exhaled–>

–> CO2 concentration in the blood decreases to normal.

Q

What is the effect of altitude on gaseous exchange?

A
  • With an increase in alitude, there is an decrease in amount of oxygen in the atmosphere.
  • Poeple whom live at higher altitudes have more red blood celsl to transport a maximim amout of O2 efficiently.
  • if a person living at sea level goes to a place at a high altitude for a few days, their body will adapt and produce more red blood cells.
