Homeostass Flashcards
1
Q
Define homeostasis
A
Maintenance of an internal environment
2
Q
What are internal factors controlled by homeostasis
A
- core temp
- blood ph
- blood glucose conc
- wp of blood
3
Q
Why is it important blood ph and stable core temp maintenaned
A
- ensure enzymes are most effect
- rate of reaction may be reduce and enzymes will be denatured
4
Q
Why is it important the boy maintains stable blood glucose concentration
A
- maintenance of constant wp in blood and body fluid
- glucose needed for respiration by cells and metabolic reactions
5
Q
Describe how homeostasis is controlled by negative feedback
A
Optimum point - point at which a system works
Stimuli - causes deviation
Receptor - detects deviation from the optimum
Coordinator - coordinates info from receptors send instructions to effector
Effectors - brings about changes needed to return the system to optimum
