Homeostasis, Cell Struc. & Function Flashcards
definition of homeostasis
any self regulating process by which an organism teds to maintain stability while adjusting to conditions that are best for it survival
examples?
thermoregulation, blood glucose regulation, baroreflex in blood pressure, calcium homeostasis, potassium homeostasis, an osmoregluation.
What are the principles of the cell theory?
All living things are made of one or more cells, the cell is the smallest unit of life, All new cells come from preexisting cells
What are the differences between a prokaryotic cell and a eukaryotic cell?
eukaryotic cells have a distinct nucleus containing the cell’s genetic material, while prokaryotic cells don’t have a nucleus and have free-floating genetic material instead.
How does a cell’s plasma membrane function?
provides protection for a cell.
What are the roles of proteins, carbohydrates, and cholesterol in the plasma membrane?
adhesion and address loci for cells
