Homeostasis and Suvival needs of the Body Flashcards
What is Homeostasis?
It is the tightly controlled internal environment of the body where it is kept in a fairly constant state.
Examples od Physiological Variables of Homeostasis?
- Core temperature
- Water and Electrolyte concentration
- pH of the body fluid
- Blood glucose levels
- Blood and tissue oxygen and carbon dioxide levels
- Blood pressure
Explain the Control System of Homeostasis?
- It detects and respond to changes in the internal environment
Process:
1. A input is received by the detector or sensor (afferent)
2. Input is taken to the control centre and if adjustments is needed, the control centre responds and output is send to the effector (efferent)
3. The effector carry out the output from the control centre
What is Negative Feedback?
any movement of such a control system away from its normal set point is negated.
An example of negative feedback?
Body Temperature
What is a Positive Feedback?
The stimulus progressively increase the response, so that as long as the stimulus is continued the response is progressively amplified
An example of Positive Feedback?
Labour Contractions
What is Homeostatic Imbalance?
It is when the fine control of a variable factor in the internal environment is inadequate and its level falls outside the normal range
What are the survival needs of the body?
- Communication
- Intake of raw materials and elimination of waste
- Protection and survival
Describe the Transport System?
Describe Internal communication?
Describe External Communication
What components are involved in the survival need of intake of raw material and elimination?
