Homeostasis and sense receptors Flashcards
What is homeostasis?
Keeping an internal environment stable despite a changing external environment
What are examples of Homeostasis?
Oxygen levels, body temp, glucose, carbon dioxide levels and water.
How does the body receive information from the outside?
Receptors.
What body systems sense and respond to change?
Nervous system and endocrine system.
What is the organ, stimuli and receptor for sight?
Eye, light, photoreceptor.
What is the organ, stimuli and receptor for sound?
Ear, sound waves/vibrations, mechanoreceptor
What is the organ, stimuli and receptor for smell?
Nose, odours/chemicals, chemoreceptor
What is the organ, stimuli and receptor for touch?
Skin, hypothalamus. pain, movement, pressure, heat. Pain receptor, thermoreceptor and mechanoreceptor.
What is the organ, stimuli and receptor for taste?
tongue. Sweet/salty/sour/umami. Chemoreceptor.
