homeostasis and negative feedback system Flashcards
homeostasis
ability to maintain constant internal environment
negative feedback system
a type of control in which the conditions being regulated are brought back to a set value as soon as it is detected that they have deviated from it
input
change to system
receptor
measures level of the variable
co-ordinator/control centre
where level of operation is set, receives information from receptor, compares variable with set value and dispatches commands to effectors
effectors
brings about a second change to the system (in the opposite direction of the input)
output:
conditions returned to set value
feedback loop (to receptor)
establish the change that has been corrected and causes effectors to be switched off
