Homeostasis and Feedback Flashcards
Homeostasis
Body’s ability to maintain a stable internal environment despite changes that occur internally or externally
Stress
- any factor that will disrupt homeostasis, anything that causes stress = stressor
- external stressor - heat, cold, niose, light, exercise
- internal stressor - pain, high blood sugar/pressure, tumor, thoughts
Feedback
System designed to let the body know about stress and adjust to it.
Some stress we recognize as good and encourage it, other stress not so good, so we work to correct it
Components of a feedback system
Control center (brain)
Receptor (identifies stress)
Effector
Control center (brain)
An area that receives info about a monitored condition and determines an appropriate response
Receptor (identifies the stress)
An area or structure that monitors a controlled condition (recives stress then tells the brain)
Effector
Structure that produces a response or changes a controlled condition
