Homeostasis Flashcards
1
Q
What is homeostatis?
A
The maintenance of a constant internal environment
2
Q
What does homeostasis control?
A
- blood glucose concentration
- body temperature
- water levels
3
Q
All control systems have:
A
- receptors - cells that detect stimuli (changes in the environment)
- coordination centres - process the information recieved from the receptors (e.g. brain)
- effectors - bring about responses to bring the conditions in the body back to optimum levels (e.g. muscles)
4
Q
What is involved in automatic control systems?
A
Nervous and hormonal communication, which detect changes and respond to them.
