- small and stuck on skin
- lasts for one week

- releases progesterone
- prevents ovaries from releasing the egg, thickens mucus in cervix so sperm cannot swim and stops fertilised eggs embedding into the uterus
- lasts for three years

- same effect as implant
- lasts 2-3 months

- T shaped, inserted into the uterus

- kills sperm in the uterus and stops fertilised embryos from embedding into uterus lining
