Adrenaline and glucagon both bind to transmembrane protein receptors on surface of target cell membrane (liver cell) - These are first messenger

Hormone receptor complex formed causing receptor protein to change tertiary structure

The hormone receptor complex activates adenylate cyclase which converts ATP into cAMP (second messenger)

cAMP causes a series of chemical changes that produce rapid response

cAMP is the second messenger and activates protein kinase which catalyse conversion of glycogen to glucose
