Homeostasis Flashcards
What is homeostasis?
A process that aims to maintain a constant internal environment of an organism within set limits to allow for optimal cell and system function
What variables are subject to homeostasis?
Temperature: Optimal body temp. is around 36.5 - 37.5
pH (acidity level): Optimal pH of blood is 7.35 - 7.45
blood sugar levels - 4.0 - 7.8 mmol/L
Na and K concentrate
What is the stimulus response model?
Stimulus, Receptor, Modulator, Effector and Response
What are the different receptors and what do they do?
Thermoreceptors: detect temp. change
Nociceptors: detect painful stimuli
Baroreceptors: detects pressure change
Chemoreceptors: detects change in chemical concentration
Photoreceptors: detect change in light
What is the negative feedback loop?
The negative feedback loop is
What is the positive feedback loop
