Homeostasis Flashcards
Define homeostasis
the condition of equilibrium in the body’s internal environment due to the constant interaction of the body’s regulatory processes
Define internal environment
the interstitial fluid in our bodies
What is the role of interstitial fluid?
interstitial fluid is responsible for bringing nutrients to cells and taking away waste fluids
How does the nervous system regulate homeostasis?
By sending signals in the form of electrical impulses of action potentials directly into organs. This then effects a response from the organ which is then released into the body.
How does the endocrine system regulate homeostasis?
The endocrine system consists of several glands which are responsible for secreting hormones. These travel to a target organ and elicit a response from it. Usually this is triggering the production of another hormone which is released into the bloodstream and regulates the variable
