In which order should you buy food?
Hot food first then cold food.
How do you store food when you get home from the store?
Put foods that might spoil like milk products and meat in the fridge of freezer.
Keep fresh fruits and vegetables in the fridge until needed.
Put in raw meat, poultry, or fish first in the fridge so the juices don’t drip onto other things.
How do you store raw meat in the fridge?
Always put them at the bottom.
What kills bacteria when canning foods?
The heat.
What do you do with electrical equipment when not in use?
Unplug them.
How do you clean your hands when handling food?
Wash with soapy water.
Dry with a clean towel.
Wash them often; in between working with different foods and right after preparing raw meat.
What do you use when chopping and slicing food?
A cutting board.
What do you look for when buying canned food?
Dents
Bulges
Leaking
Rust
What are 3 reasons you might throw away canned food?
The food looks moldy or bubbly.
It smells very strong or very bad, like rotten eggs.
If you are unsure whether the food is safe to eat.
What are 2 pieces of information to write on the label of frozen food containers?
Name of food
Date
What should you do with a partially used can?
Transfer the food to a container with a lid and put it in the fridge.
Why should you label containers in your kitchen?
So you don’t mix them up with something else.
How do you drain hot water from food?
Put the strainer or colander in the sink.
Take the pot of hot food to the sink.
Pour the food into the strainer by turning the pot away from you. This is safer because the steam from the hot food will not hit your face or upper arms.
How do you prevent accidents in the kitchen?
Clear some counter space and make sure you have enough space to work.
How do you prevent burns in the kitchen?
Turn the handles of pots and pans inward.
Don’t pick up a hot pan without using a pot holder.
Clean the stove regularly to remove oil or grease that may catch fire.
Keep hands and face away from the hot steam rising from a cooking pot.
