Hoist Failure
A
Symptoms: Hoist cannot be operated with normal controls
- Advise the pilot
- “CHECK BACKUP PUMP ON” (FM) (Copilot Performs)
- “CHECK RESCUE HOIST TO ALL” (FM) (Copilot Performs)
-If condition persists: - “GOING TO BACKUP CONTROL” - PUSH ON (FM)
- Complete hoist or abort as required
-After hoist is complete, troubleshoot as follows: - BACKUP CONTROL push button- PUSH OFF (FM)
- Hoist Circuit Breakers - CHECK/RESET:
A) RESCUE HOIST POWER (CAB R2 #4)
B) RESCUE HOIST CONT (CAB R6 #2)
C) RESCUE HOIST CONT (CAB R6 #9) - Check operation of pendant and grip
- Disconnect pendant/recheck grip

Runaway Hoist
A
Symptoms: Hoist cable continues uncommanded movement either up or down
- Advise the Pilot
- “GOING TO BACKUP CONTROL” - PUSH ON (FM)
- If Runaway Continues: - “SET BACKUP PUMP OFF” - (FM)(Copilot Performs)
- Abort the hoist and make on scene repairs, abort the mission, or take other action as appropriate

Hoist Hydraulic Overheat

Symptoms: HYD OVERHEAT light on (Rescue Hoist Control Panel)
1. As soon as practicable, cease operation of the rescue hoist until light goes out
2. Rescue Hoist Circuit Breakers - CHECK/RESET
A) RESCUE HOIST POWER (CAB R2 #4)
B) RESCUE HOIST CONT (CAB R6 #2)
C) RESCUE HOIST CONT (CAB R6 #9)

Fouled Cable
A
Symptoms: The hoist cable, hook, or rescue device becomes fouled or secured on deck
- Immediately pay out cable
- Advise the pilot
- If injury or damage is imminent: - “SHEAR, SHEAR, SHEAR” (FM)
- EMER REL button - PRESS (P, CP)
- HOIST SHEAR switch - SHEAR (FM)
- If injury or damage is not imminent: - Maintain position
- Attempt to have FM and boat personnel free cable or rescue device
- If unable to free device from the deck: - Cut cable with cable cutters
- Abort the mission or rig quick splice and continue hoist

ICS Failure
A
Symptoms: Loss of audio tone and/or no response to voice commands
- Perform an ICS check, check Hoist Pendant ICS switch and visually inspect cord. If in position to safely do so, retrieve the device (FM)
- Perform an ICS check, check PTT and cord (P)
- Slowly move aircraft to establish visual reference with the hoisting area (P)
- Pay out slack - As Required (FM)
- Troubleshoot ICS malfunction
- If ICS malfunction is corrected, proceed with normal hoist procedures
- If ICS malfunction is not corrected: - Position aircraft to recover rescue device per Rescue Briefing (P)
- Signal pilot to reestablish visual reference with hoisting area by pointing to the left side of the aircraft. Rescue device may or may not have been recovered (FM)
- Observe signal, pass to pilot (CP)
- Slowly move aircraft to establish visual reference with the hoisting area (P)
-If device was recovered: - Complete hoist of rescue device
-If device was not recovered: - Make on scene repairs, abort the mission, or take other action as appropriate
