Age distribution of Hodgkin’s lymphoma?
Bimodal age distribution - most commonly in young and elderly people
What is the histologically defining feature of Hodgkin’s lymphoma?
Reed - Sternberg cells
What is the most common presenting feature of Hodgkin’s lymphoma?
Lymphadenopathy (75%) - painless, non tender and asymmetrical
Name 4 systemic features of Hodgkin’s lymphoma?
- Weight loss
- Pruritus
- Night sweats
- Fever
Also known as B symptoms and occur earlier in Hodgkin’s than non Hodgkin’s lymphoma
What should be avoided in Hodgkin’s
Drinking alcohol as there is pain associated after drinking
Haemological characteristics of Hodgkin’s
Normocytic anaemia (low haemoglobin levels) Esinophilia
How are patient’s staged?
CT scan of chest, abdomen and pelvis
Stage 1
Single lymphnode region
Stage 2
Two or more regions on the same side of the diaphragm
Stage 3
Involvement of lymph node regions on both sides of the diaphragm
Stage 4
Involvement of extra nodal sites
Treatment of Hodgkin’s
Multi modal - both radiotherapy and chemotherapy used
Diagnosis of Hodgkin’s
Lymph node biopsy
Which condition is Hodgkin’s linked with?
Infection with Ebstein Barr virus is linked with condition
Common sites of lymphadenopathy?
Mediastinal lymphadenopathy is common and can cause dyspnoea. cough or stridor
