HOC Legeslative Branch Flashcards
What is the legislative branch made up of
Hobo or general the HOC and the senate
All put together are parliament
What rules do parliament must obey
They have to meet at least once a year
When they meet they may discuss passing new laws, amend laws, repeal or remove laws and or debate imports at Canadian issues
What is a question preiod
Opposition parties challenging the governments actions and raise issues they believe should be discussed
A cabinet minister and or the PM will respond t the challenge and explain why the acted that way
What is the HOC
the House of Commons could be known also as the lower house
It is the ONLY part of the legislative branch that has elected memebers who have seats because of their ridings (about 100,00)
Debates in the HOC are controlled by the speaker of the house (elected) to make sure the rules are fair for all
What is the governing party
The group with the most MP’s who won the most ridings
What is the opposition
They sit directly across from the governing party, the job of the opposition is to scrutinize bills propesed by the governing party
