A
- prevent wound contamination
- prevent wound from mechanical injury
- apply medication to facilitate healing process
- provide sterile material for absorption of discharge
- promote haemostasis/stop bleeding

what do the different colours of wounds indicate?
A
- black: presence of necrotic tissues
- yellow: moist sloughy wound
- green: moist sloughy wound, indicative of infection. accompanied by pain, swelling, heat, redness and pus.
- red: healthy granulating wound
- pink: healing wound, translucent

how do infected and clean wounds smell like respectively?
A
- infected wound: strong foul smell
- clean wound: odourless

how do you promote wound healing?
A
- ensure wound is cleaned every day/every 3 days
- if there are signs of infection, seek medical help
- ensure patient has a diet rich in vitamin C, zinc and protein
- avoid reusing soaked dressing

after opening a wound dressing kit, how do you treat a wound?
A
- pour cleansing agent onto the sterile cotton swabs from 6 inches above the kit
- squeeze the swabs dry with both forceps, holding them parallel to each other
- clean the wound with the swabs and immediately dispose of used ones
- dry the wound with gauze until completely dry
- cover the wound with one piece of gauze
- either tape the gauze down or use bandages to secure it
