Indications for parathyroidectomy

A

Symptomatic hyperparathyroidism
Stones, bones, groans, psych overtones, etc

Asymptomatic hyperparathryoidism

  1. Age < 50
  2. Serum calcium greater than 1 mg/dL above the upper limit of normal
  3. Bone mineral density T score less than –2.5
  4. Vertebral fracture
  5. Creatinine clearance less than 60 mL/minute or reduced more than 30% for age
  6. Twenty-four-hour urine calcium greater than 400 mg/dL
  7. Nephrolithiasis or nephrocalcinosis on imaging
