HL KINETICS Flashcards
What is the rate constant
The rate constant k is a constant for a particular reaction at a specified temperature
What is the order of a reaction
The order of reaction with respect to a particular reactant is the power to which its concentration is raised in the rate equation. The overall order for the reaction is the sum of the individual orders of all reactants.
Draw the concentration-time graph of a zero-order reaction
do it
Draw the concentration-time graph of a first-order reaction
Draw the concentration-time graph of a second-order reaction
Draw the rate concentration graph of zero order reaction, first order and second order
What is a half life
the time it takes for the concentration of a reactant to reach half its original value.
What is another feature of concentration-time graph for first order reaction
constant half life
Radioactive decay
Follows first order reaction. If something has constant half life, it is first order.
what is the rate determining step in the reaction mechanism
the slowest step which determines the overall rate of reaction.
what is molecularity
the number of reacting/colliding particles in an elementary step of a mechanism. molecularity refers to one elementary step.
What does a catalyst do.
A catalyst is involved in the rate-determining step of a reaction. It provides an alternate pathway for the RDS with a lower activation energy
what is k?
the general measure of the rate of reaction at a particular temperature
