  • Hitler was spying at a DAP meeting.
  • However, he was invited to join the party after Drexler heard him debating at the meeting.
  • He became Drexler’s right-hand man.

How did the DAP develop after Hitler joined?

A
  • Hitler’s powerful and passionate oracy, along with hatred of the WR, meant membership grew to 3000 by 1920
  • In 1920, Hitler and Drexler announced the party’s manifesto: the 25 Point Plan
  • Hitler suggested the party’s name change to the Nationalist Socialist German Workers’ Party (NSDAP or Nazis)
  • They adopted the Swastika as their symbol

A
  • Set up a permanent office in Munich
  • Bought 2 newspapers to spread the party’s message
  • Set up the SA, who paraded in the streets and beat up opposition, giving the party a sense of power and order
  • Selected leaders carefully, e.g. Julius Streicher as published, or Ernst Rohn as SA leader
