What was it?
a peace treaty signed by USA, France, Italy and Britain at the end of WW2, concerning Germany’s future
Where was the meeting held?
Versailles Palace (mirrored) in France because of its size
Terms of the treaty
- reduced military (100 000 men limit, no airforce)
- ‘war guilt’ - take blame for starting war
- reparations/fines
What did the ‘Big Three’ countries want?
FRANCE (worst hit)
-more land (Alsace Lorraine)
-money
-greatly weaken Germany, so Germany could never invade them again
BRITAIN
-money
-Lloyd had to maintain public profile - wanted to be soft on Germany but couldn’t
-worried about rise of communism in Europe
-supported reduction of navy (Britain = large navy)
-justice NOT revenge
-compromised between Clemenceau and Wilson

-thought was too harsh (pulled out 1920)
-prevent future wars
What was the League of Nations?
A group of nations working together to improve world and stop war, work together when there is a crisis.
