The pope had to raise money to build the Vatican and they needed money. They went to a monk called Tetzel and he created the indugence. Martin Luther then wrote his 95 Thesis and the people started thinking for themselves.

Indulgence is a free path to heaven as long as you pay money.

A

Humanism is the term that humans are good without god. Individualism is that people can do things on their own without the church.

Sextant and Astroblade

A

They are both navigation tools. The sextant measures the distance between two objects and the astroblade measurs longitude and latitude using stars.

They both improved exploration.

Plymouth vs Jamestown

A

People went to Plymouth because they disagreed with the beliefs of the church. They were dissenters and left and became separatists. Natives helped them after a hard winter and they got better. The people who went to Jamestown went because of economic reasons and religious persectution. John Smith and John Raulph.

He founded the Quakers. In Pennsylvania. They were pacifists.

A

They believed in friendhship, education and equality. They were viewed as dangerous and many moved to England. Pennsylvania was nice to the Natives.

James Ogelthorpe

A

He came up with the idea that debtors and the poor could make a new start. The king let him put them in Georgia. It didn’t work. It then became a buffer zone.

Intolerable Acts

A

After the Boston Tea Party, Parliament decided to punish the Bostonians and established the Intolerable Acts. It prevented Massachusets from governing itself. It strengthened the quartering act. Troops could take over a private person’s home. Port would be closed until destroyed tea was paid.

Also known as the coercive acts.

Repeal

A

An act of revoking a law.

After the Boston Massacre, the Townshend Acts were repealed.

The stamp act was also repealed.

Battle of Lexington/Concord

A

They were the start of the revolution. The British wanted to surprise the Militia but they ended up starting the war.

A

Danial Morgan helped lead it. Burgoyne(British), was by himslef because Howe went to Philadelphia. They surrendered. It was the turing point of the Revolutionary war.
