Alex became a leading voice of the federalists who believed that the federal gov needed to be strong. on the other side, Thomas a republic argued that too much power in the hands of the federal gov would lead to tyranny.
the jeff rep. believed in a strong state gov a weak central gov, and a strict construction of the constitution. the federalists opted for a powerful central gov with a weaker state gov and a loose interpretation of the constitution.
